Dr Megan Chapman

Dr Megan Chapman is a clinical psychologist who has 30 years of experience working in infant and child mental health, CAMHS, adolescent and adult mental health, acute health, and forensic settings. Megan is an innovative clinical teacher and trainer who is passionate about supporting clinicians to support patients and families, with the goal to enhance communication and optimise clinical care and team dynamics. She is also mindful of the toll that working in complex clinical environments has on clinicians.

Megan spent 17 years as the coordinator of the Infant Mental Health program at The Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne, working closely in interdisciplinary teams of paediatric, nursing, and allied health professionals. During this time, she was part of the Hospital Consultation Liaison (HCL) service, so a large component of her work was secondary consultations to hospital clinicians regarding complex patients and complex clinical scenarios. She was also an active member of the hospital clinical bioethics service.

In addition to a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, Megan also has a PhD from the University of Melbourne through the Department of Paediatrics, examining Reflective Functioning in Neonatal Intensive Care.

Megan is an AHPRA registered psychology supervisor. She can supervise psychology registrars for clinical endorsement, and psychologists wanting ongoing supervision. She can also provide cross-disciplinary supervision for Infant Mental Health clinical work, particularly in the context of medical complexities, and trauma after hospital stays.

Alongside the Reflective Consultation Service, Megan is available to facilitate teaching, training, and professional development activities. She is also establishing a small clinical practice through Buckley Consulting Group in Essendon. Megan will primarily see very young children and their families who have experienced hospitalisation or medical complexity very early in life, including NICU or PICU admissions, or young children with ongoing medical complexities. She will also see parents struggling with their child’s medical or genetic diagnosis. All referrals are managed directly by Buckley Consulting Group
